Todd texted me, saying to meet him at a club called Illusions, which was only a couple blocks away from Liz’s party. They had a reputation for making the best whiskey sours in River Heights, and they always had a rockin’ band playing on Saturday nights.

When I got to the bar, Todd was there talking to a beautiful redhead. I snuck up from behind him and gave him a little spank.

Todd took out his wallet. “Let me buy us all a round of drinks. Whiskey sours okay for everyone?”

We all nodded in agreement.

Todd turned away from the bartender. “So Candy, tell us something about yourself.”

Candy was annoyingly perky. “I just turned twenty-five. I’m visiting from Oklahoma, thinking about moving to California. Everyone is so friendly here.”

“Ha ha ha!” Todd and I cracked up at the same time.

“Hey, bartender,” Todd ordered. “Give us a round of shots, Patrón, please. Candy here thinks y’all are friendly.”

We downed the shots and then decided another round was a great idea. By the time I had to go the bathroom, I could barely walk. Candy and I walked over together arm in arm.

“You’re really beautiful, you know,” I stammered.

Candy batted her long fake eyelashes like she was being coy. “Thanks, doll. You too.” She leaned in and gave me a soft kiss on the lips. I wasn’t sure if I should punch her or thank her. My surprise aside, Candy’s lips felt so good, all I wanted to do was kiss her back.

We both reapplied our lipstick and brightened our cheeks with a quick stroke of blush. Satisfied with our appearances, we headed back to the bar.

Todd gave us a group hug when we returned. “You ladies feel so good.”

I was amazed at how relaxed and happy I felt. I wasn’t sure if it was the alcohol, the company, or both. I didn’t care. I was having fun, and in that moment, that was all that mattered to me.

Just then, one of my favorite songs came on: “Blister in the Sun” by The Violent Femmes. I grabbed Todd’s hand and led him to the dance floor.

Todd grabbed my boobs from behind and grinded up against me like a college boy. I loved it. Candy started dancing in front of me and put her hands on my hips. I felt like Baby from Dirty Dancing. I was in heaven.
